Katharine S. Brooks is the Director of Career Services for the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas in Austin, and teaches "The Liberal
Arts in Management," which focuses on the direct connection between a liberal arts education and the workplace. She has provided career guidance to liberal arts students for more than 20 years. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas and Pennsylvania, a nationally certified counselor (NCC), and a certified distance career counselor (CDCC).
Brooks' expertise in career issues related to liberal arts students and careers has been recognized in nationally syndicated columns and publications. She has written numerous articles on such topics as marketing a liberal arts degree, career coaching strategies for liberal arts students, and making the most of a study abroad experience. She wrote two chapters in a book on employment in the nonprofit sector, Great Careers: The Fourth of July Guide to Careers, Internships, and Volunteer Opportunities in the Nonprofit Sector (Devon Smith, ed. Garrett Park Press, 1990).
Brooks presents at national and regional conferences on such topics as career coaching liberal arts students, developing an international career, media influences on career choice, film images of women in business, career transitions, and applying counseling theory to liberal arts students. She serves on the Educator's Advisory Board for Walt Disney World's College Recruiting Program.
Brooks has a doctorate in educational psychology and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from West Virginia University. Her bachelor's degree is in sociology and anthropology from Gettysburg College.
